How time flies

Greetings,

I had originally intended to post an update a little earlier, unfortunately school work calls and I had no time to write. Well, good news is that it is study week, which means I am free to write!

Previously I had listed the modules that I did this sem. Hence for today, I will begin talking about them.

First up is Investment Banking, Fin4112H.

The course is conducted by the same prof for fin markets, something I of course knew going in. You can immediately tell it is the same prof because he uses the same set of slide templates haha! That aside, I enjoyed learning a fair amount within the module. He tends to facilitate quite alot of discussions within each lesson, so put on your class part hats. The weightage for class part is pretty high too. I'd reckon its 20 or 30% (I am lazy to check =D). The good thing about this being a 4k mod is that the quality of class part has improved tremendously since good ole marketing days. It was enjoyable listening to other people's inputs to the topic at hand.

Mid terms was again 20 or 30% - much better than fin markets. It was an MCQ paper which was slightly tricky to say the least. Finals, on the other hand, was something totally different: 2x essays. The weightage of which is also 20 or 30%. Prof seems to focus alot on preparing the students for the working world. The essays were meant to mimic a tight scheduled report from a supervisor on a certain pertinent topic on hand.

The last component of the module is the project. This time prof did not give a choice of team or topic. Everything was assigned. Presumably to again mimic the working world: You have no say who you work with or what projects are detailed to you. Fair enough. I had a very good team, super efficient. I probably have to admit slacking a bit on the project, but the sheer efficiency of the team meant that everything was completed to a pretty high standard quickly. I barely broke a sweat for the project portion. Again the weightage is probably 20-30% (I know, the math doesn't sum up. Give or take a few %)

There's tons to learn in this module. Highly recommend hons biz students to take - even if you are not going to investment banking (like me).

Cheers!
