A Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year

Greetings!

Christmas came early with results being released on the 23rd. The finals left me with mixed emotions, I had effectively given up trying to think if I could achieve my goals for the year.

Ill try to give a short opinion on each of the modules I had taken:

Leadership MNO2007:
Class participation was ferocious. I did my best to raise my hand every week, and I achieved a decent top 25% of the cohort for class part, which I hoped would help me towards my A. I generally enjoyed the lessons, topics were relevant and interesting, my group mates were good, unfortunately our project was just about the 50th percentile, or slightly worst. The thing that irked me the most was the feedback giving exercise. We were tasked to give feedback on our team mate's performance and then graded based on this feedback. It was a ridiculously subjective exercise and I was graded bottom 25th percentile. If anything, I think this and the project pulled my grades down. I was hoping for at least an A- after some segments of the grades were released, but in the end I got a B+. (Which probably means I will never take anymore lame [no offence to HR friends] MNO mods).

SSA2204:
I may have mentioned before, can't remember. Whatever it is, the module itself is useful. The knowledge I find interesting. BUT the delivery leaves much to be desired. The lecturer merely reads off his script. So for weeks on end all I did was sit down and copy word for word whatever script he was reading off. The mod had no webcast, which means that you can't skip if you want to listen. The funny thing is that I had access to a copy of a previous year's notes, and it turns out the lecturer's script has NOT CHANGED AT ALL. Such an easy life man.  Anyways, the two essays I got B+, which I was hoping I could do better (who wouldn't). The finals were easy. Too easy maybe. Essentially, the topics that came out were what had been discussed to death. No way to fail, but very hard to score well. I had thought I could pull up to at least an A-, but again ended up with a B+. Thankfully, I have SU-ed this.

PC1325:
The physics mod (haha it seems I never learnt my lesson) piqued my interest and I hoped to secure an easy A. Of course, as the sem progressed the lessons became tougher and tougher. It would seriously help if it was made clear what was examinable and what wasn't. I particularly enjoyed the stargazing session to Msia. In fact, to me that is the highlight of this module. I also did enjoy the group work, which helped greatly that I found 2 friends who were also taking this mod. We had to come up with a short story which covered the themes discussed in class. The finals were very confusing. Reminded me of my taming chaos one last year. Confusing not that it was tough, but the questions were so remarkably weird and in some cases absurd that the answer was so plain obvious. Fortunately, the math which I feared never did come out at all. End result was an A-.

BSP2005:
I really enjoyed the classes and lessons. The lecturer runs like a bullet train, which left many people gasping and cursing (perhaps it is a good thing for me?). I felt it was fast, but could cope with the information. It has an economics spin on issues but takes the math out of it. This module requires tons of homework in the form of consistent reading, which I think helped improve my understanding of the topics on hand. Some people would definitely NOT like the intense amounts of readings. I don't, but the inherently interesting topics helped keep me focused. End result was A.

FIN3119:
I have some background knowledge in insurance so when I saw this module I jumped on it. The whole seminar section was conducted much like a 3 hour lecture. No tutorials, only readings should you choose to faithfully read it. It becomes draggy very easily and I always needed a cup of coffee especially since it was an 8am class. I found the topics very easily understandable, and the math easy to apply. The toughest part was the project, which the Prof gave VERY little guidance, simply saying do whatever you want that is related. If you (the reader) chooses to take up this mod, do clarify and define your project scope well, it will speed up the process and allow a smooth completion of the project. I had to change the project scope mid way, which wasn't very helpful, but due to our own poor prior planning. Nonetheless, we pulled through and I was pleased at the end result of the project. I did very well for the mid term, but got a scare in the finals when the Prof tested one huge portion on a reading which I did NOT read at all. Somehow, I managed to complete it and come 23rd, I received my second A+ for my university life. Woopiee!

CAP this sem: 4.5
After SU: 4.625

Overall: 4.33
After SU: 4.34

Happy Holidays!
